That is a documented scam pattern — a fake or unlicensed operation lists a lead price to get you to call, then the tech invents a "drilling fee," "special tool surcharge," or "after-hours rate" at the door. We charge $75–$150 for automotive lockouts depending on the vehicle make, model, and type of opening required. Luxury vehicles with sophisticated door electronics (some BMWs, Teslas, newer Mercedes) sit at the higher end. The figure we quote on the phone is the figure you pay — no after-hours surcharges, no "service entry fee" layered on top.

Rekeying is almost always the right answer. The previous owner — and everyone they ever gave a key to — can still enter your home until you rekey. Rekeying a cylinder takes about 10 minutes and costs $25–$60 per lock; it changes the internal pins to match a new key while keeping all your existing hardware. Replacement only makes sense if the hardware is damaged, low-grade, or you are upgrading to a higher security cylinder at the same time.

For most vehicles with transponder keys or key fobs, we charge $85–$280 depending on the make. Dealerships typically charge $350–$600 for the same key and often require a tow. We come to you, cut the key on-site, and program the immobilizer chip using the same OEM data the dealer uses. Bump resistance is protection against "lock bumping," where a specially cut key is struck to momentarily set the pins — it defeats most residential Grade 2–3 deadbolts in under 30 seconds. Pick resistance refers to tolerance between the driver and key pins; high-security cylinders like Medeco and Mul-T-Lock use angled, rotating, or sidebar elements that make traditional raking and SPP picking impractical. For most Las Vegas homes, a ANSI Grade 1 deadbolt with a 1-inch bolt and hardened steel strike reinforcement is the cost-effective solution; high-security cylinders make sense when you have real threat context.

Every SwiftKey technician carries a photo ID and their Nevada locksmith license card — ask to see both. We never take your key out of your sight, and we never retain key codes after the job. We are bonded, meaning a surety company has vetted our background and financial standing. For lockout calls, we verify your ownership with a photo ID before opening any door or vehicle. If a locksmith declines to show their state license, do not let them in.

Smart locks are as secure as the cylinder they are built around. A Schlage Encode Plus uses a Grade 1 deadbolt cylinder rated for kick-in resistance and 250,000 cycle durability — that is a legitimately strong lock. The Yale Assure is a Grade 2 body, adequate for most residential use. What we tell customers: the lock grade and deadbolt bolt-projection matter more than whether it is "smart." App-connectivity is a feature, not a security upgrade. A $30 Grade 2 knob set made "smart" is still a weak lock. We would install a Schlage Encode Plus or a Mul-T-Lock with a Yale Assure deadbolt body on our own doors.

Master key systems for small properties (4–10 doors) typically run $200–$600 for design and rekeying. Larger multi-unit properties or office buildings run $600–$1,200 depending on the number of cylinders, key levels in the hierarchy, and whether we are working with existing hardware or providing new cylinders. We document the full key matrix and keep no copy — you own the system.

Do not try to extract it with a bobby pin or tweezers — you will push it further in. Call us. A broken key extraction with our extractor hooks and lubricant takes a few minutes and costs $55–$95. If the key broke because the cylinder is worn, we will show you the wear and quote a rekey or replacement at the same visit. If you damaged the lock trying to extract it yourself, the repair cost goes up — sometimes significantly.
