Forge Your Strongest Self — Every Body Welcome
Marcus Stone spent eight years competing as an IFBB pro, traveling the country and training at some of the biggest gyms in the world. But everywhere he went, the pattern was the same -- intimidating atmospheres, overpriced memberships, and coaches who cared more about their own brand than their clients' progress. He knew there was a better way to build a gym.
San Diego was the obvious choice. The city's outdoor fitness culture, year-round perfect weather, and active military and veteran community meant people here already understood discipline and hard work -- they just needed a home base worthy of that dedication. In 2019 Marcus signed a lease on a raw warehouse space on Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach to prove it.
Marcus welded the first squat racks himself, painted the walls with friends, and opened the doors with three members and a simple promise: world-class coaching, serious equipment, and zero ego. Within six months, word of mouth filled the schedule. He brought on Anthony for boxing, Jessica for mobility, and Daniela for group programming. Each coach shares the same philosophy -- meet people where they are, push them further than they thought possible, and make the gym a place they actually look forward to walking into.
Five years later, Forge Fitness Club serves over 500 active members from every walk of life -- Navy SEALs and retirees, surfers and software engineers, competitive athletes and parents squeezing in a 6 AM session before school drop-off. The equipment is elite, the programming is evidence-based, and the culture is relentlessly supportive. Marcus still coaches the 5:30 AM class every Monday, and he still remembers every member's name and their numbers.
“To make world-class strength and conditioning coaching accessible to every body, regardless of experience, background, or fitness level.”
The principles that drive Forge Fitness Club
Forge is for everyone. We scale every workout so a first-timer trains alongside a competitive athlete without intimidation. Your only competition is yesterday's version of yourself.
Our training plans are built on exercise science -- periodized progression, progressive overload, and measurable benchmarks. We track your numbers because guessing doesn't produce results.
Forge is more than a gym -- it is a crew. Our members push each other, celebrate PRs together, and show up for each other on the hard days. The culture is the product.
We believe in lasting change, not 30-day fixes. We build habits, teach principles, and develop strength that compounds over months and years. The goal is a lifetime of fitness.
Every Forge coach holds nationally recognized certifications (NSCA, ACE, or ISSA minimum) and completes continuing education annually. Your safety and progress depend on coach quality, and we never compromise on it.
The professionals behind our success
Head Coach & Founder
NSCA-CSCS, Former IFBB Pro, 18 years coaching experience, Precision Nutrition Level 2
Marcus competed as an IFBB pro for eight years before opening Forge in 2019. He built the gym on one principle: elite-level coaching should be accessible to everyone, not just athletes with sponsorship deals. San Diego's year-round training weather was a big part of why he chose Pacific Beach — and he still coaches the 5:30 AM class every Monday and personally programs for over 40 members.
Boxing & MMA Coach
Former professional boxer (14-2 record), Muay Thai Black Belt, ISSA-CPT, USA Boxing Coach Certified
Anthony retired from professional boxing and brought his fight-camp discipline to Forge. His classes blend technical striking with conditioning drills that challenge even seasoned fighters. He has trained three amateur boxers to Golden Gloves regional finals since joining the team.
Yoga & Mobility Director
RYT-500, ACE-CPT, Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) Certified, Pelvic Floor Specialist
Jessica spent five years teaching yoga across Southeast Asia before settling in San Diego. She designed Forge's recovery programming specifically to support heavy strength training, and her outdoor mobility sessions on the beach in Pacific Beach have become a member favorite. Her assessments are one of the most requested services at the gym.
Strength & Conditioning Coach
NSCA-CSCS, MS in Exercise Science (SDSU), USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach
Daniela joined Forge after completing her master's at San Diego State, where she coached Division I athletes. She runs Forge's HIIT and strength programming for group classes and has a talent for making complex periodization concepts accessible to everyday members.
