Our story

Portland's Prep-First Painters

Marcus Trevino spent his first decade in Portland on other people's job sites, watching the same failure mode repeat. A customer would get three bids, take the lowest, and two years later call someone else because the paint was peeling. Every time, the autopsy was the same: inadequate prep. A scrape-and-caulk step cut short. Primer skipped to save two hours. Wet siding painted because the schedule demanded it. Marcus started TrueLine Painting in 2012 with one rule: never cover a surface that isn't ready. That commitment cost early jobs to cheaper competitors, but the homes TrueLine painted kept looking good — and homeowners started calling back and sending their neighbors.

By year four, TrueLine had grown from Marcus and one helper to a crew of six, all licensed, all working under the same code. Diane Fujimoto joined to lead interior work and brought a color-consulting practice that caught on immediately in Portland's design-conscious market. Joel Ramirez came on board as the exterior specialist, earning his EPA RRP certification to handle the lead paint compliance that Portland's aging housing stock demands. Priya Chandrasekaran joined last as estimator and coordinator, and her detailed, transparent quoting style — everything itemized, everything explained — became the clearest version yet of what TrueLine had always tried to be: honest about what the job costs and why.

Portland is a city with strong opinions about houses. The Craftsmans and Victorians and mid-century ranches here are not commodities — they are homes people are proud of, and paint is one of the most visible things you can do to one. TrueLine's 1,800+ completed projects are spread across almost every neighborhood in the city, and the majority of new work still comes through referrals. Marcus still personally inspects every exterior before first paint, moisture meter in hand, same as he did in 2012.

01 / What we stand for

How we work

Prep Comes First

Paint reveals prep — or reveals the lack of it. We will not apply paint over a surface that isn't ready, and we won't quote prep out of a job to win it on price.

Itemized, Honest Pricing

Every quote breaks out prep, primer, and finish separately so you know exactly what you're paying for. Change orders require written approval before we pick up a brush.

Lead-Safe, Code-Compliant

Portland's pre-1978 housing stock is beautiful and risky. We are EPA RRP certified, test before we disturb, and document every step — because the liability and the health risk are real.

Portland-Deep Roots

We have painted in nearly every Portland neighborhood. We know which north-facing exposures hold moisture, which historic districts have HOA color rules, and how Portland's climate eats exterior paint.

3-Year Workmanship Guarantee

If paint we applied fails within three years due to our application, we fix it at no charge. That guarantee is why our prep step stays non-negotiable regardless of schedule pressure.

02 / The people on your job site

Licensed painters, not day labor.

Marcus Trevino

Lead Painter & Owner

OR CCB #238741, EPA RRP Certified, 14 yrs

Marcus started TrueLine after a decade as a journeyman painter on Portland commercial and residential jobs, where he watched more than a few projects fail because contractors rushed prep to hit a margin. He founded TrueLine on a single rule: never cover a surface that isn't ready. That mandate costs a little more time and has earned the company every long-term referral it has ever received. Marcus still personally inspects every exterior before first paint.

DF

Diane Fujimoto

Interior Lead & Color Specialist

Sherwin-Williams Pro Certified, 11 yrs

Diane leads all interior projects and handles color consultations across Portland's range of housing — from the saturated Victorians in Northwest to the mid-century ranch homes in Lake Oswego. She tracks how Portland's flat, overcast light changes a color between morning and dusk, and she won't let a homeowner commit to a swatch they haven't seen on their own walls.

JR

Joel Ramirez

Exterior Specialist & RRP Lead

EPA RRP Certified, OSHA 10, 9 yrs

Joel runs TrueLine's exterior division and heads every job that involves lead paint testing or RRP-rule work. He has tested and remediated dozens of pre-1978 Portland homes across Hawthorne, Sellwood, and Irvington. Contractors who skip the RRP testing step give him a professional headache he talks about freely — because the liability lands on the homeowner if something goes wrong.

PC

Priya Chandrasekaran

Estimator & Project Coordinator

Certified Estimating Professional, 7 yrs

Priya writes every estimate at TrueLine — detailed, itemized, and explained out loud to every customer before they sign. She coordinates job scheduling around Portland's forecast windows, manages the relationship with paint suppliers, and fields every call during the estimate-to-start phase. Homeowners consistently cite her clear communication as the reason they booked over a cheaper bid.

No pressure. No upsell. Just fixed.
