Anchor Garage Door was started by Marcus Webb after ten years as a field technician for a national garage door franchise. He was good at the technical work, but the job made him uncomfortable in one consistent way: the pricing model was built around hourly rates that kept climbing, and techs were incentivized to upsell parts the customer did not always need. In 2011, Marcus left, signed a lease on a commercial bay off Olentangy River Road, and opened Anchor on a single policy he had been unable to practice at his previous employer — you quote the job before you start it, and that number does not change.

The spring inventory came first, because springs are why most people call. Marcus stocked the full range: standard residential, commercial-grade, both winding types, a dozen wire diameters. When a call came in, he wanted to arrive already carrying what the door needed. That meant same-day service without the "we have to order the part" delay that he had seen frustrate customers for years. Columbus homeowners started noticing. By year two, over half of new calls were referrals. By year five, the company was running three service trucks and Tyson had joined straight from Columbus State.

Today Anchor employs four people who share Marcus's original constraint: the customer hears the price before a wrench touches the door. We explain what we found, why it matters, and what it costs.
