Curated Essentials for the Modern Nomad
Nomad Goods started with a broken suitcase zipper at 35,000 feet. Lucas Chen was mid-flight to Lisbon when his carry-on gave up — the same bag he had bought three months earlier from a brand that charged premium prices for mediocre materials. That was the moment he decided to build something better: everyday gear designed by people who actually use it, made from materials that last.
Lucas partnered with Sofia Moretti, a product designer who had spent years sourcing sustainable materials at Patagonia, and together they created the first Nomad collection: six essentials designed to survive real travel. They launched online in 2019 from a co-working space in Brooklyn with $12,000 in savings and zero advertising budget. Word spread through backpacker forums and remote-work communities — exactly the kind of DTC word-of-mouth that Brooklyn's indie brand culture runs on — and the first run sold out in eleven days.
Today Nomad Goods ships over 50,000 orders a year to customers in 15 countries. The studio sits on Atlantic Ave, surrounded by the creative entrepreneurs and artisans that make Brooklyn one of the best places in the world to build a product brand. Seventy percent of products are made from recycled or organic materials, and every item on the site publishes its full environmental footprint. The team has grown to include a subscription program, corporate gifting division, and seasonal pop-ups, but the mission has not changed: create everyday gear that lasts, looks good, and leaves a smaller footprint than what came before it.
“To prove that thoughtful design and sustainable materials are not luxuries. We build everyday essentials that last longer, work harder, and leave a smaller footprint — at prices real people can afford.”
The principles that drive Nomad Goods Co.
70% of our products use recycled or organic materials. We publish the environmental footprint of every item on its product page because transparency is not optional — it is the standard.
Every product goes through at least six prototypes before it ships. If it does not solve a real problem or spark genuine joy, it does not make the cut. Form follows function, always.
Free shipping over $75, 30-day hassle-free returns, and a real person answering every support email within 4 hours. We measure ourselves by the experience, not just the sale.
We launch new collections quarterly based on customer feedback and travel trends. Our subscription box members get first access to prototypes and vote on what ships next.
Every factory we work with is personally visited and vetted by our design team. Fair wages, safe conditions, and environmental compliance are non-negotiable prerequisites, not marketing claims.
The professionals behind our success
