Before your first appointment

Q.01Do you accept new patients and same-day emergencies?

Yes, we welcome new patients every day. We also hold dedicated same-day emergency slots for urgent issues like knocked-out teeth, severe pain, broken restorations, or facial swelling. Call (512) 555-0098 and a team member will answer and triage your situation immediately.

Q.02What dental insurance plans do you accept?

We are in-network with most major PPO plans including Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, Guardian, and United Healthcare Dental. We will verify your benefits before your appointment and provide a real cost estimate — not a range — so you know what to expect. If you have no insurance, our Bright Smile Membership Plan covers preventive care for $300–$500 per year.

Q.03How much does a cleaning cost without insurance?

A routine adult prophylaxis (cleaning + polish + fluoride) runs $100–$200. A child cleaning is $70–$120. Perio maintenance for patients with a history of gum disease is $150–$260 per visit. Our membership plan includes two cleanings and two exams per year, making it the most cost-effective option for uninsured patients.

Q.04What is a CEREC same-day crown and how does it work?

CEREC lets us design, mill, and place a permanent porcelain or zirconia crown in a single two-hour appointment. We take a 3D digital scan instead of messy impressions, design the crown on-screen, and the in-office mill produces it while you wait. No temporary crown needed, no second appointment, no lab week.

Q.05How much does Invisalign cost and how do I know if I am a candidate?

Invisalign treatment at our practice ranges from $3,500 to $8,000 depending on the complexity of your case and the number of aligners needed. We offer a complimentary iTero scan consultation so you can see a 3D simulation of your projected outcome before committing to treatment. Most adults with crowding, spacing, or mild bite issues are good candidates.

Q.06Do you offer sedation for anxious patients?

Yes. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which wears off in minutes and lets you drive home, and oral sedation for patients who need deeper relaxation. Comfort amenities include noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets, ceiling-mounted TVs, and warm neck pillows. Many of our most anxious patients have become our most regular ones.

Q.07Are dental implants painful? What is the full process?

The implant is placed under local anesthesia and most patients report less discomfort than expected. The process takes 3–6 months total: surgical placement, an osseointegration healing period, then the final abutment and crown. Dr. Alvarez uses CT-guided surgical planning so the placement is precise and minimally invasive. All three stages happen in this office.

Q.08How often should I see the dentist?

Most healthy adults benefit from an exam and cleaning every six months. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, or are going through orthodontic treatment, we may recommend visits every three to four months. Austin's dry climate and high-sugar coffee culture both accelerate enamel wear and gum recession — staying on schedule makes a real difference.

Q.09What payment options do you offer for larger procedures?

We accept CareCredit with 0% promotional financing, offer in-house payment plans for procedures over $1,000, and accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA accounts. We also provide a detailed written treatment plan with insurance estimates before any work begins so there are never surprise charges.

Q.10When should my child first visit the dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth erupting. Early visits establish baseline records, let us catch issues before they require treatment, and — most importantly — build a positive association with dental care that tends to last a lifetime. Our team is especially good with anxious and young children.
